Learning Pathways - S4 / S5 Pupil Information: Frequently Asked Questions
What is the entry criteria for each course?
The entry criteria for courses in S5 and S6, where appropriate, will be included in the course descriptor (available in the learning pathways overview). Entry grades for pupils are absed on February working grades (via Didbook).
Can I make changes to a subject or level at a later date?
Yes, there will be the opportunity to make changes to subject choices following the publication of the SQA results in August, however this is subject to staffing and spaces available in classes
Do I have to choose 5 subjects?
Yes - returning to school is a full-time option so everyone has to choose 5 subjects plus one wider achievement elective. The only exceptions are S6 pupils who are studying Advanced Highers who can have a maximum of 1 study column.
Can I study a subject I've never taken before?
Potentially, it depends on the subject so check the available information.
Can I choose a study column?
This is only for pupils in S6 who are studying Advanced Highers.
Can I resit a course I passed last year?
It is generally not recommended to try to improve the grade achieved in a subject already passed unless a university specifically asks for this. It would be better to choose new courses at this stage until you have your SQA results.
Where can I get further advice about what I should study?
